Old age pension
Professional football players in the Netherlands may qualify for one or more pension schemes.
Current old age pension (under CAO, collective labour agreement)
This pension is prescribed in the pay-and-conditions agreement for professional football (CAO Betaald Voetbal). It has been compulsory for all players belonging to a Dutch Professional Football Organisation (Betaald Voetbal Organisatie or BVO) since 1 January 2006. The pension is insured with Nationale Nederlanden. It provides for a retirement pension (pure endowment benefit) and, for active members, a surviving dependants and orphans pension. CFK assists in some areas and serves as contact point for professional players and organisations.
Former old age pension
Until 1 July 2005 professional players built up a pension individually under the bridging pension scheme. That ‘former’ pension was purchased by means of a single deposit with an insurance company (ASR or Nationale Nederlanden).
The pension provides for a retirement pension (guaranteed entitlement) and a surviving dependants and orphans pension.
- Professional players whose football career ended before 1 July 2005 purchased this pension by means of a single deposit with Nationale Nederlanden;
- Professional footballers in active employment as players after 1 July 2005 purchased this pension through a single deposit with ASR Pensioenen.
